US NYSE Juneteenth

Is the Stock Market Closed for Juneteenth?

Updated August 31, 2022

Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19th, commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. On June 17, 2021, President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law, officially recognizing it as a federal holiday. (Nasdaq)

Given the short notice, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and NASDAQ did not close in 2021. Starting in 2022, both exchanges began observing Juneteenth as a market holiday, closing on June 19th or the nearest weekday if it falls on a weekend. (New York Stock Exchange)
