Updating Web Browser Settings

Overview

TradingHours.com can show desktop alerts and play a bell sound when markets open or close. These are nice features but they are not for everyone.

Because these features can be overused and become annoying, web browsers sometimes automatically block these features. This is especially true if the webpage is in the background and not currently being used.

Many people like to keep tradinghours.com open in the background to check the market status. So it is a common problem that people's web browsers block our desktop notifications and alert sounds.

How to turn notifications on/off?

By default, tradinghours.com shows a desktop notification whenever a market open or close. We will only show alerts for markets on the current open page.

For example, if you are on the NYSE page we'll only show alerts from the NYSE. If you are on the Countdown Dashboard, we'll show alerts for all tracked markets. (You can customize which markets are tracked on this page.) If you're on the markets index page you'll get alerts for the top 20 markets.

The first time an alert is triggered, your browser will ask you if you want to allow tradinghours.com to show alerts. You can choose to block or allow. This will not impact anything else on the site.

If you change your mind later, you can update the notification settings in you browser at any time. At the bottom there are links to instructions for each major web browser.

How to turn sound on/off?

By default, sound is turned off. You can turn sound on by creating a free account and then turning on sound in your settings.

However, web browsers will still sometimes block sound that plays automatically.

To ensure, that sounds are played properly from tradinghours.com, follow the instructions below to allow auto-play sound.
